Nara Kinnara belongs to the new school of fiction that came to Indian creative order after the Second World War. Indian writers' over concern and obsession with social realism following marxist dictum prevalent during the forties and fifties of the twentieth century were abandoned boldly in this path breaking novel. Instead of representing man as a socal creature that is destined to serve the society as a slave the novelist chose his protagonist as a human being who is an individual in the first place.
Thus he created a typical individual human being whom he named George- George was indeed the Anthropomorphic creature who turned into man, at the end of the novel, in a world of his mentors, the subhumans The long journey of George in this 400 page long novel was indeed a modern Upanishad of our times. The novel has been very much discussed and researhed into since its first publication in 1962 and the process still continues.
Nara Kinnara is the story of Modern man in search of a soul.
