The plates said to have been executed by Serlio, were bound with either an Italian or French title page and text. This is the first edition of the French text.-- cf. Fowler cat., no.325.
Book VI, planned by Serlio to contain the description of the habitations of all degrees of men, was first published in 1966 from MS 1096 in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich. In Serlio's Tutte l'opere d'architettura, 1584, published as a 7 vol. work, the Italian original of this title, Libro estraordinario, was substituted as the6th vol.
