A sad village in the countryside swelters in the burning summer heat. Jonas and his pregnant mother arrive at his grandmother's house in the middle of the night after finally running away from the horrors and sorrows of their past. But this new home is not as cozy as they had hoped. The villagers mock them, and Jonas' grandmother completely ignores him, choosing instead to remain a mysterious shadow behind the glass door of her room. His mother begins to ignore him when she falls into an affair with a man that Jonas hates. Jonas is left alone in a harsh place, without a comfort or a friend in the world. When Jonas meets a little girl named Sarah, she brings him along on her nightly excursions, where they have their chance to take their revenge on the adult word.
