Bertène Juminer (1927-2003), enfant de Guyane et de la Guadeloupe, pur produit de la "méritocratie" républicaine. Responsable universitaire, acteur essentiel de la santé publique mais aussi homme de lettres inspiré, dont Aimé Césaire salua les débuts. Ses romans ont fait de lui un des écrivains majeurs de la littérature franco-caraïbéenne et le chantre inlassable de la "parole de la nuit", prônant le dialogue de l'interculturalité, comme de la "bâtardise" exprimant la culture complexe des antillais et des guyanais.
