Lawrence G. Newman

Lawrence G. (Larry) Newman has over 36 years of experience as an attorney. His legal career includes:

 Author of Texas Corporation Law, a treatise for practicing lawyers published since 1986. The 2006 edition contains the new Texas Business Organizations Code revisions. Author, The Complete Guide to Nonprofit Corporations, 2009. See www.knowlespublishing.com.

 Has lectured and published articles on business and legal topics including the University of Chicago Law Review, the Journal of Corporation Law, and the Texas Bar Journal. His co-authored article on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act was published in two issues of the Texas Bar Journal and in 2004 was given the Outstanding Journal Article Award by the Texas Bar Foundation.

 A wide-ranging business law background and experience. He has represented businesses from medical products, healthcare providers, high technology, insurance, and financial enterprises to entrepreneurs in Texas, the United States, and internationally. His practice focuses on business organizations and transactions and acting as outside general counsel to a wide variety of for-profit and nonprofit enterprises.

 Litigation of a wide variety of cases in state and federal courts, including contract disputes, insurance claims, securities litigation, corporation and other partnership disputes, employment cases, commercial disputes, probate matters, and many other kinds of cases.

 Service as a court-appointed mediator since 1989. Mr. Newman is trained and certified as a court-appointed mediator. He has successfully mediated many types of cases ranging from personal injury and insurance claims to employment and business disputes. Mr. Newman is also trained in civil collaborative law.

Mr. Newman is the President of the Law Firm of Lawrence G. Newman, P.C., founded in 1980, and has the highest "a.v." rating from Martindale Hubbell Law Directory. He completed his undergraduate work with honors at the Colorado College (1969) and graduated from the University of Chicago Law School (1972), where he was an Associate Editor of the Law Review. After law school, Mr. Newman served as Law Clerk to Chief Judge Alfred A. Arraj, U.S. District Court, Denver, Colorado (1973).

Mr. Newman is a member of the American Bar Association, the Texas and Colorado Bar Associations, and the Dallas Bar Association. He has served as Chairman of the Dallas Bar Minority Participation Committee, Chairman of the Dallas Bar Pro Bono Committee, and Chairman of the Board of Legal Services of North Texas. He originated and founded the Sarah Hughes Diversity Law Fellowship at the SMU Law School and helped organize the Dallas Bar’s annual Campaign for Equal Access.
