James Calvert

James Calvert was born in Stonerigg, Cumberland, England. In 1881 he received a B.A. degree from the University of London, followed by a B.Sc. in 1885 and an M.D. in 1886. He became assistant physician to the Royal Hospital for Diseases of the Chest at Victoria Park, and in 1895 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Dr. Calvert became warden of the residential college at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London and lectured in the medical school. He became a physician shortly before World War I. During the war, 1914, he served at the 1st London General Hospital in Camberwell with the rank of lieutenant-colonel, R.A.M.C.(T.F.). In 1924-25 he was a censor of the Royal College of Physicians.
