Concepción Silva Bélinzon was born in Montevideo in1900 and died in 1987.
She published more than fourteen books, won several national poetry prizes, and received international acclamation from writers such as Max Aub, Marosa di Giorgio, Oliverio Girondo, Ramón Gómez de la Serna, Alejandra Pizarnik, Jules Supervielle, and Antonio de Undurraga; she was also nominated for the Literature Nobel Prize in 1974. Nevertheless, in spite of such acclaim, her work has not yet received critical attention, especially in her own country. her "minor" poetry was quickly overlooked and forgotten. Her writing still provokes divided opinions amongst Uruguayan intellectuals.
