Byrd Spilman Dewey

Byrd Spilman Dewey was born Julia Bird Spilman February 16, 1856 in Covington, Kentucky. Her father was Jonathan Edwards Spilman, an attorney and Presbyterian minister; her mother was Eliza Sarah Taylor, a niece of President Zachary Taylor. Her family moved to Maysville, Kentucky where her father had obtained a ministry position. She was educated in the schools of Maysville and finished her education at Sayre College in Lexington, Kentucky.
