Margery Harriet Lawrence, a prolific writer of Gothic and romantic fiction (chiefly remembered today for The Madonna of Seven Moons), was also a believer in the occult: several of her fifty-odd supernatural tales were based on personal experiences. Among her stories are 'The Haunted Saucepan' (from Nights of the Round Table, 1926) and 'The Death Strap' (from The Terraces of Night, 1932).
