Albert Ross Hogue

July. 20, 1873 - Oct. 18, 1978

From the Autobiography of AlbertRoss Hogue: "I am a native of Fentress County, Tennessee. I was born in a cedar log cabin on July 20, 1873. I taught 47 years in the public schools, four years of this in the state of Georgia. I have written and published a number of books, principally local history and practice law."

Albert Ross Hogue was a native of Fentress County. Received his education from Monroe Academy and Alpine Institure, began teaching at the age of seventeen, taught in Georgia and Tenn. He served as High School Superintendent and County Superintendent of schools for Overton County, finance Commissioner of Fentress County in 1894, notary public in both Overton and Fentress counties, postmaster at Allons, Tenn. He submitted several names for Allons and they were rejected finally he gave up and sent in Allons which is french for Come on!" "Let's go--that name was accepted. Several years clerked in a store, a state representative for two terms (1936-4?), conducted teacher's institues, served on the Tenn State Grading Committee, assisting in grading the papers of applicants for teacher's certificates from all over the state, July 1914.
