Bound volume, designed to commemorate the Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre Ball held at the Royal Albert Hall, London, June 20, 1911. The book was edited by Mrs. George Cornwallis-West, also known as Lady Randolph Spencer Churchill, and features brief essays written by George Bernard Shaw, G. K. Chesterton, C. Lewis Hind, Anthony Hope, I. Gollancz, and others. Illustrations feature society notables dressed as characters from the plays of William Shakespeare

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy in original, Yapp-style vellum-covered boards with silk ties, as issued. The bookplate of the BPL Elizabeth Fund is present on the front pastedown. Twenty-four plates are detached from their original stubs and are presently housed within the volume. Housed in a green cloth slipcase
