The beginning of this letter is missing. Joseph Ricketson presumably wrote this letter to Deborah Weston on April 11, 1861. The writing on one page has been crossed out
Joseph Ricketson writes that Wendell Phillips gave two lectures in New Bedford, both of which were well received. He elaborates on Wendell Phillips: "He was our guest & after the Lecture a good many citizens & ladies called on him & a procession with a band of music came up & serenaded & Wendell went out and stood on the stepping stone on the sidewalk & made a neat & appropriate speech." Ricketson believes that "nine tenths of all who heard it coincide with his views."
