Subject: Authors Identity
Subject: Authors Identity
Contrary to what is said, the book Author is not José Agostinho de Macedo but Duarte Gorjão da Cunha Coimbra Botado, a Portuguese nobleman that was born in Torres Vedras (Lisbon district) in 1782 and died in Lisbon in February 1827.
He was Governor of Alenquer and Lieutenant-Coronel. He was also de Head of a noble Family, the "Gorjão Henriques", still existent. His younger brother as liberal, but Duarte was a devouted "legitimist", defender of the rights of Prince Miguel (later on King Miguel I) and of the Ancien Regime.
He was Fidalgo Cavaleiro (1807) and, as student, attended the Colégio dos Nobres.
He wrote other books, lik the Memória do procedimento havido com a Rainha D. Carlota Joaquina (in 1823) and published several articles in Portuguese newspapers (Trombeta lusitania - 1822-1823) and Gazeta Universal.
He married two times and has descendance from both marriages.
For his life, in Portuguese, see http://openlibrary.org/a/OL5233396A/Duarte-Gorj%C3%A3o-da-Cunha-Coimbra-Bottado
Best regards,
His 4th grandson
