Subject: A Letter Discovered in Mexico Sheds Light on Spanish Fur Trade
Subject: A Letter Discovered in Mexico Sheds Light on Spanish Fur Trade
This brief monograph focuses on a letter by Manuel Lisa, a well known director of the Missouri Fur Company.
The letter is included in both Spanish and English-translation, and was written at Fort Manuel (Fuerte Manuel) on the Missouri River in late 1812. It describes, among other things, the yearly excursions by Spanish fur traders to areas as far north as Wyoming.
This heretofore unknown document is put into prospective by Dr. Bolton who explains it's significance.
