For history of the ill., see Mortimer. The ill. are as in the corresponding 1567 Italian ed., but with the addition of 15 subjects and the omission of one. Most were cut by Giovanni Criegher, the co-publisher. There is an overlay on the plate at D1r, present in one of the Harvard copies described by Mortimer, but not in others. Woodcut musical notation, P4v and Q2r. Bird's eye view of Venice, R6v. Franceschi's "Pax" device on t.p. and last p. Initials, a few head-pieces

Centered on front pastedown is bookplate of Biblioteca Giuliari (i.e. Giovanni Battista Giuliari, 1810-1892; see Bragaglia 2094). Below it is Giovanni Muzio's etched bookplate by Giacomo Manzù. On t.p. verso is ownership inscription of Matthaeus Lucchese, architect of Venice
