Translation of Aus meinem Leben. Dichtung und Wahrheit
Each volume in 2 parts, paged separately, with caption title: Truth and poetry: from my own life. The motto of the second part in the original edition "Was man in der Jugend wünscht, hat man im Alter der Fülle", appears on the t.-p. of each of the volumes, the three other mottoes are omitted
The first part is translated by the editor; the second, by John Henry Hopkins, jr. ; third, by Charles A. Dana, and fourth, by John S. Dwight. cf. Advertisement, pt. II, and editor's note, pt. IV, at end
The projected translations mentioned in the editor's note at end of pt. IV ("Annals, or Day and year book", "Italian journey", "Correspondence with Schiller and Zelter") were apparently never published. Calvert's translation of the "Correspondence between Schiller and Goethe", v.1 of which was published in 1845 by Wiley and Putnam, remained unfinished
