Samuel King Vann

1845 - 1870

My great-great grandfather, Samuel King Vann was not quite 18 years old when he joined the Confederate Army, with the 19th Ala. Regt., Co. C.
His letters to his young beloved
Nancy Elizabeth Neel begin in Tennessee shortly after the Battle of Chickamauga and end near Augusta, Georgia, a few weeks before the surrender of Gen. Joseph E. Johnson. He survived the war, does marry his dearest " Lizzie " and has 2 daughters Willie and Ida. Unfortunately at the age of 24 he dies when he is kicked by a mule.
