Urbanista, insegna al Politecnico di Milano e presso la Scuola di specializzazione dei Beni Architettonici e del Paesaggio SSBAP. E' stato membro del Comitato scientifico di AM/FM Gis Italia. Si interessa di teoria dell’urbanistica e dei settori operativi quali trasporti e mobilità, beni culturali, protezione ambientale. In particolare si è interessato delle relazioni tra dati, informazione e conoscenza e decisioni nelle applicazioni modellistiche, nelle analisi territoriali, nella cartografia e nei sistemi informativi geografici. Ha partecipato alla progettazione di programmi per la pianificazioni e il controllo in tempo reale del traffico, sviluppando sempre le implicazioni teoriche e operative e il loro trasferimento nella didattica istituzionale, nell’istruzione permanente e in pubblicazioni.

Laurea in architettura presso la Facoltà di architettura del Politecnico di Milano nel 1969.
Professore associato dal 1982 presso il Politecnico di Milano. È stato presidente del Centro Beni Culturali e Ambientali della Lombardia dal 1986, è membro del Comitato scientifico di MONDOGIS dal 2001 e membro del Consiglio scientifico di ASITA dal 2004.
Interessi principali: teoria dell’urbanistica (meccanismi di sviluppo, ambito disciplinare e operativo); studi sui modelli di analisi territoriale, sui trasporti e per la pianificazione degli insediamenti e delle infrastrutture e per la valutazione delle tecniche urbanistiche. L'approfondimento delle analisi territoriali è stato affrontato in termini teorici e operativi nei settori della cartografia, dei Gis e delle relazioni tra dati, informazione e conoscenza a supporto delle decisioni. Ha collaborato con università e società industriali (Olivetti spa, Ibm Semea spa, ComputerVision Spa, Consorzio Milano Ricerche, Erasmus and Cilea) per ricerche e corsi di istruzione permanente su temi di informatica di applicazione dei sistemi informativi per l’urbanistica, per i trasporti e per i beni culturali.

He graduated in architecture to the Faculty of architecture of the Politecnico di Milano in the 1969. From 1969 to 1976 it has charges as collaborator and entrusted assistant with some ministerial scholarship and grant. Assistant professor from 1976 to the 1982. Associated professor since 1982, always to the Polytechnic in Milan.
He has been president of the Centre for Cultural Heritage and Environment in Lombardy (Centro per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali della Lombardia) from 1986 to 2003, he has belonged to the scientific Committee of MONDOGIS from 2001, he was member of the scientific Committee of ASITA from 2004 to 2009 and of AMFM Gis Italy from 2005 to the 2008.
His main interests were on theory of the urbanism, with particular attention to transportation, to cultural heritage and environmental sustainability. He has deepened the devices of the urban development, the relationships among data, information and knowledge in the model applications to regional analysis related to the transport net, to the facilities planning and to the more adequate and suitable techniques for decision making. In the concerning studies the territorial analyses he has deepened the potentialities of the cartography and the geographical information systems as Decision Support System in planning and managing. He has collaborated with university and industrial firms (Olivetti spa, Ibm Semea spa, ComputerVision Spa, Consortium Milan Ricerche, Erasmus and Cilea) for researches and educational activities on themes of computer science and information technologies applied to land planning, transportation and cultural heritage.
He was scientific manager of a Polytechnic research unity and of another one working under Consortium Milano Ricerche, both within the Finalized Projects on Transportation promoted by the CNR. From these experiences he was charged by Italtel Telesis to develop software for a traffic control system in real time, always combining practices with theoretical implications and their transfer to institutional education and publications. That was the start-up for a new firm: in 1993 he together with the arch. Adele Maria Cunietti (unique administrator) and to the arch. Vincent Curti founded in Milan the society of engineering Nus solution for the urban and territorial planning srl. Nus is now operating as society specialized in traffic planning and road design. In 2007 he promoted together with Lorenzo Mussone, engineer and researcher in the same Department BEST, the Cluster Motus "Models, Tools and Technologies for the Government of the Mobility" which participate the Department INDACO (Department of Industrial Design, of the Arts, of the Communication and of the Fashion), the DEI (Department of Electronics and Information) and the DIAP (Department of Architecture and Planning).
