Rainer Herrn

Rainer Herrn is senior lecturer at the Institute for History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine and the Charité University Hospital Berlin, and founding member of the Magnus Hirschfeld Society Berlin.

Dr. Rainer Herrn has been working at the Research Center for the History of Sexology of the Magnus Hirschfeld Society since 1991 and at the Institute for History and Ethics in Medicine at the Charité with a focus on the history of psychiatry since 2008. His research topics include the establishment, functions and practices of both disciplines as ways of interpreting and dealing with psychological, gender and sexual diversity / alterity in urban modernity. In addition, book and essay publications, exhibitions, lectures and courses.

Dr. Rainer Herrn arbeitet seit 1991 an der Forschungsstelle zur Geschichte der Sexualwissenschaft der Magnus-Hirschfeld-Gesellschaft und seit 2008 am Institut für Geschichte und Ethik in der Medizin der Charité mit dem Schwerpunkt Psychiatriegeschichte. Seine Forschungsthemen umfassen die Etablierung, Funktionen und Praktiken beider Disziplinen als Deutungs- und Umgangsweisen mit psychischer, geschlechtlicher und sexueller Diversität/Alterität in der urbanen Moderne. Dazu Buch- und Aufsatzveröffentlichungen, Ausstellungen, Vorträge und Lehrveranstaltungen.
