Felicia Lamport was born in Manhattan, New York City. She graduated from Vassar College in 1937, after which she worked as a reporter and wrote dialogue for MGM films. In 1942 she married Benjamin Kaplan, American copyright scholar and jurist, who was a professor of Law at Harvard University. She also taught at Harvard, giving writing classes at Harvard and the Harvard Extension School. She became well-known as a political satirist and writer of light verse. Her work was featured widely in newspapers and magazines such as the Atlantic, Harper's, and The New Yorker, and she published several books.
