Sunflower of the Third Reich is a historical novel set in war-torn Germany from 1942 to the end of World War II and Hitler's regime in 1945. The novel presents the German perspective of the war. The author grew up in Nazi Germany describes in vivid detail the lives of ordinary German citizens during the war: the initial excitement and enthusiasm for Hitler's vision of the Third Reich, the nightly terrors of air raids and bombings, the famine, and the pressures of obtaining the barest necessities. Sunflower tells the story of one family's experiences during the war on the home front and follows with action-filled battle scenes on the Russian front. It tells of poignant romances and the final moments, when American soldiers came to liberate the German people.
