"WHILE there is much discussion and some disagreement as to the origin of The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, it is conceded by all that it first became knows in North America some time in the year 1870, and that during the latter part of that year, and the first part of 1871, steps were taken by a number of gentlemen in the city of New York preparatory to the founding of a Temple of the Order in that city."
