About the Book

The book is a literary appreciation of Dr Sher Zaman Taizi's literary works (1931-2009). Dr Taizi, who has passed awary in December 2009, was a renowned pashto poet, novelist, short story writer, playwright, translator and literary and political researcher. Though written in English, the book is the first of its kind in the contemporary history of pashto literature. The book covers the entire gamut of Dr Taizi's works, with a focus on literary criticism of his five novels, all written in pashto language. Dr Taizi was one of those exceptional pashto literati, who has significantly influence the contemporary pashto literaure through his writings. The glaring contribution of Dr Taizi lies in his role as a sub editor of the Frontier Post, a prestigious English daily, published from Peshawar, the capital city of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, Pakistan, in the early 1990s. In the Frontier Post, Dr Taizi introduced pashto literature to diverse readers of the English daily, including those abroad. The book was published by Kamil Pashto Literary Association, Pabbi, District Nowshera, on the occasion of the World Pashto Conference in the year 2000, held in Peshawar, under the leadership of Salim Raz, a famous pashto literati. The author of the book--Dr Khurshid Iqbal Khattak--himself is a pashto poety, short story writer and playwright, who has won the best playwright award 2009 from the Pakistan Television, for his long srial play--Srey Gharmey. Besides, his literary contributions, Khattak has obtained his PhD in Human Rights from the University of Ulster, UK, and LLM in International Business Law, from the University of Hull, UK. He teachers and researcher Internaional Law of Human Rights, Criminal Law and Justice and the Law of Torts at the Unversity Law College, Peshawar and the Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad.
