Freely adapted by Edward Ravenscroft from Robert Codrington's translation of George Ruggle's Latin play "Ignoramus," which in turn was based on "La trappolaria" by G.B. della Porta, written to expose the ignorance and arrogance of lawyers. Ravenscroft's adaptation was subsequently published under title: Ignoramus, or, The English lawyer. Cf. ESTC.
