The treaty was negotiated and drafted by Lords Commissioners appointed to the task (by Queen Anne for England and Wales and by the Scottish Parliament for Scotland), their draft being completed July 22, 1706. It was ratified, with minor amendments, by Scotland on Jan. 16, 1707, and by England and Wales, without further amendment, on Mar. 6, 1707, effecting the union of the two nations as Great Britain on May 1, 1707.
