Here is an example of adapting the Anglican Prayer Book Catechism 1989 based upon a personal interpretation that there is but one simple theme to life: that of journeying on together with God one another and with creation. The purpose, to the glory of God. To serve this purpose the catechism is reorganized to support this thesis and one embarks upon a course. It Carrick's view that the journey Christians are on is relatively short in relation to for instance the history of the earth. Nevertheless Christians are to redeem the time through embarking upon meaningful ministries reflecting relationships during their time on earth. Completion of the course reveals its contextual orientation. Completion is regarded as entry into a generic 'lay ordination' with some emphasis upon parish priests to take a lead not only in conducting these courses but to encourage supplemental ministries so that the church in this way will witness Christ in community. A changing world got Carrick to address the technological side of society seeking to move secularist views to those based on faith.

This little manual is a valiant address to the issues mentioned above. It leans a bit too much toward a leadership course and actually follows on from the catechism as a proposed manner of effective confirmation. There is little here of that which leads to the traditional view of confirmation, rather it is the consequence of confirmation that is dealt with here. Nevertheless it is a useful primer for anyone wanting to supplement the APB Catechism in its original form. It probably needs a rethink to meet the challenges South Africa faces in 2012.
