Spine includes binder's spine title and device of the Boston Public Library in gilt. Edges of pages marbled. Front spine detached from spine binding. Front pastedown includes donors' ex libris (bookplate) of the Boston Public Library identifying copy as a gift of Joshua Bates, received September 15, 1859. Verso of frontispiece includes annotations in pencil concerning provenance. Title page includes embossed stamp of the Boston Public Library. Verso of title page includes autograph in (faded to brown) ink script at tail-edge of page. Rear pastedown includes affixed label of the Boston Public Library, dated "June 1889", concerning circulation regulations, and ink stamp of the Boston Public Library Bindery, dated "MAR 1 1890". Printed on antique laid papers featuring vertical chainlines, horizontal wire lines, and watermark visible at head-/spine-edge of pages.
