James Fulton, Jr. writes to William Lloyd Garrison to inform him that a man named Richard J. Thatcher, thinking Fulton an agent of the "Liberator", had given him the sum of $2 to purchase a subscription. Fulton forwards this request to Garrison despite his not being an agent, and informs him that his uncle, Joseph Fulton (an agent of the "Liberator" in Chester County) would forward the money as soon as possible. Fulton goes on to brief Garrison on the state of anti-slavery activism in Chester County, informing him that since the formation of the Clarkson Society 3-4 years prior, interest in the subject had grown, with the Society of Friends taking up the subject, and 3 or 4 abolitionist societies having been formed in the past month. Fulton explains that these societies will be auxiliary branches of an as-yet unformed statewide society.
