Edition Notes
Holograph, signed.
Refers to a recent sentence as "monstrous" and comments: "of course one would be very careful not to treat objectionable conversation with children at all lightly" but if you analyze what the person said "it was nothing so very bad & might have been argued not to have been at all suggestive of anything improper - considering the light sentences passed for far more fearful crimes" and adds later: "I'm afraid one must avoid the Regents Park Police Case altogether-". Last paragraph suggests that if the recipient would like to see proofs of or make additions to his article, they should be sent to "[E. W. Drybough?] 16 Gough Square".
Henry Vizetelly was a journalist, publisher, artist, wood-engraver, translator and printer. Vizetelly was general editor and part owner with David Bogue of "The Illustrated Times", a cheap illustrated paper launched by the partners in 1855. Cf. Korey, Marie Elena et al. Vizetelly & Compan(ies), 2003.
Recipient of letter is unknown.
