A short description of MEDITATIONS OF THE HEART can be found in the word M-E-D-I-T-A-T-E. It is a Motivational, Exegetical, Devotional, Inspirational, Theological, Applicational, Transformational, Educational collection of writings for those in every situation of life from a seasoned pastor/teacher.
From the Preface Rev. Donnie L. Martin offers a glimpse into the heart of a pastor/teacher in his devotional book titled "Meditations of the Heart: Thoughts on the Christian Life." He perceives that the Christian life begins with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, grows with a perpetual fellowship with Christ and His Church, and further develops with a pertinent stewardship of all temporal and eternal resources. Rev. Martin understands and undertakes life's supreme devotion to the permeating Lordship of Jesus Christ. His heart's desire is to follow in the steps of his Lord and Savior; like William Whiting Borden of Yale (1887-1913), who wrote, "No reserves, no retreats, no regrets." Dr. Robert A. Cook (1912-1991), former president of the King's College, Briarcliff Manor, New York, shares in "Now That I Believe" (Chicago: Moody Press, 1949), "The word 'communion,' when applied to our relationship to God in developing Christian character, has two phases...The first phase of communion is to take everything you know about yourself to Him...The second phase of communion is to take everything you know about Him to yourself!" A persevering discipleship of this type brings glory to God! As you read these pages, may you become a person after God's own heart and begin to think God's thoughts after Him. Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and author of "Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving the Bible a Voice."
