Catherine Snow, a novel
in the eye of the rope

Published 2009 by Flanker Press in Newfoundland. Canada .

Table of Contents

On August 31, 1833, a family’s and a community’s life changed forever. John Snow, a prosperous English fisherman and planter, went missing. A few days later, John’s Irish wife Catherine, his young Irish bookkeeper Tobias Mandeville, 25, and his Irish servant Arthur Spring, 28, were accused of murdering John, though his body was never found. Catherine Snow was charged as an accessary, resulting in one of the most atrocious crimes in Newfoundland’s colonial history.
This is a story of a mother's love for her children and her refusal to capitulate to the powers of religion and politics.
Though this novel has fictional elements, it is based on the historical truth of Catherine Snow's hanging in 1834.
