Mitch and Amy Huff—nine-year-old twins— are equally matched in ability but very dif- ferent in personality. Close as only twins can be, they nevertheless have a special gift for Infuriating each other.

The twins' year in fourth grade is like any other year, with lots of ups and downs. Amy can't resist teasing Mitch about his reading difficulties, but she's the one who finds the first book her brother reads on his own. When Mitch becomes the target of the school bully, Amy keeps Mrs. Huff from interfer- ing, and, together, the twins handle the problem in their own way.

Amusing and touching by turn, these experiences are related with an exact ear for the way children talk and an observant eye for the way they behave. Mitch and Amy takes its place with Beverly Cleary's other much-loved classics.

Work Description

Mitch and Amy is a children's novel by Beverly Cleary, illustrated by George Porter, Bob Marstall, Alan Tiegreen, and Tracy Dockray, first published in 1967.

The story follows the escapades of the fraternal Huff twins, Mitch and Amy, in Berkeley, California. Although the book was written in the late 1960s, the book stays true to Cleary's penchant for making the stories relevant regardless of the time period.
