The experiences of international students in transnational higher education programs in Singapore.

Published 2006 .
Written in English.

About the Book

This thesis examines the potential of transnational higher education programs to lead to greater cross-cultural understanding, intercultural learning and dialogue among cultures. Through an interpretive, qualitative study, the study highlights international student perspectives of their experiences in transnational higher education programs in Singapore. Literature on transnational education in the world is growing, but the voices of international students in these programs have seldom been heard. This exploratory research aims to understand how international students experienced the various aspects of their transnational higher education journeys, from their initial motivation to choose a transnational program in Singapore, to their academic, social and cultural experiences. The theoretical context for the thesis is provided by the World Order Models Project, through which the data obtained in the interview conversations with the students is examined in order to judge the potential for transformative outcomes of transnational higher education.
