About the Book

Hand function is of critical importance to quality of life and independence for individuals with quadriplegia. Outcome measures sensitive to subtle shifts in upper limb function for quadriplegia are not well developed. The Quadriplegia Hand Assessment Tool (Q-HAT) is a new assessment battery that has been designed to be: specific to the quadriplegic population, capture sensorimotor function, discriminative, and sensitive to change longitudinally. The purpose of this study was to compile the Q-HAT, evaluate clinical utilization and test sensibility. The Q-HAT is a five battery test which consists of Semmes Weinstein Monofilaments, Vibration Sense-256 cps, Static Two Point Discrimination, Manual Muscle Testing, and the Modified Sollerman Hand Function Test. The measure was compiled, tested, and modified into the current draft making it clinically useful and appropriate for use with the cervical spinal cord injury population as well as feasible and sensible for use by clinicians and researchers.
