Desulphurization of high-sulphur blister copper by bottom injection of air.

Published 2006 .
Written in English.

About the Book

Increased temperature led to slightly increased oxygen efficiencies and mass transfer coefficients with lance injection. No noticeable temperature effect was observed for plug injection. Increasing flow rates led to slightly increased oxygen efficiencies and greatly increased mass transfer coefficients, whereas increased bath depth led to greatly increased oxygen efficiencies and slightly decreased mass transfer coefficients.Anode refining is the final pyrometallurgical step in the primary production of copper and has remained basically unchanged for decades. This process was designed to finish refining Peirce-Smith converter output to produce anode copper of sufficient purity for electrorefining. The first part of this process is desulphurisation by air injection, which currently is done by tuyeres via side injection. This study is to investigate the kinetics of desulphurisation of blister copper when air is bottom injected.Charges of high sulphur blister copper were desulphurized at temperatures between 1200°C and 1300°C by air injection through both submerged lance and porous plug. Samples were taken and analyzed for sulphur content and desulphurisation curves were plotted.
