Line tension is an important parameter for the interpretation of the contact angles of small drops and may play a key role in various applications. Although line tension is a well-defined thermodynamic quantity, controversy regarding both the order of magnitude and the sign of this quantity persists. Line tension is highly sensitive to the measured value of contact angle. Hence a sophisticated technique was developed for high accuracy measurement of contact angles to determine line tension in liquid lens systems. The experimental results using a lens of dodecane at an air-water interface suggests a value of -10-6 J/m for the line tension.
