In early communist Russia, an intellectual encounters three figures one of which is Satan, though a very different one. The figures establish themselves in the society and question the order of things. The book is a satire fantasy novel that while being very engaging, is a commentary on the order and establishment of society. It is considered one of the masterpieces of the 20th century.
