The Italian poet, author of this play, lived for more than twenty years in England, where he instructed the Prince of Wales and the royal princesses in the Italian lanaguage, until his return to Italy in 1747, 'quand l'âge lui rendit nécessaire un climatplus doux'. The Biographie Universelle describes him as 'l'un des poètes les plus agréables de l'Italie au dix-huitiéme siècle'.
