520 $aA history of the Jewish community in Detroit. Mentions tensions between Jewish working-class neighborhoods and those of other ethnic groups. Discusses the international influence of Henry Ford's "Dearborn Independent" and "The International Jew, " which were exploited by the Nazis. Describes the strong support in the 1930s for racist organizations and for the Nazi propaganda of Father Coughlin; the growing frequency of antisemitic incidents and of discrimination; and the Jewish community's energetic measures against these phenomena. Antisemitism increased after America's entry into the war. During World War II, whites accused Jewish leaders of inciting Blacks, while among the Blacks there was resentment of Jewish slum landlords and merchants, who were the chief victims of the riots of June 1943.$c(From the Bibliography of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism).
