520 8 $aFirst time exhibition in Mexico of the first version of the "Buona ventura" (The Fortune Teller), a painting by Italian Baroque artist Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. The painting exists in two versions, both by Caravaggio: this first version dated 1594 is now part of the collection of the Musei Capitolini in Rome and a second latter version is part of the collection of the Museum Louvre in Paris. This first version of the Caravaggio masterpiece was exhibited alongside 16 paintings by European and Mexican colonial painters created between the 17th and 19th centuries. The catalogue comprises critical, historical and technical essays by Dr. Sergio Guarino and Dr. Federica Papi, both curators from the Musei Capitolini, along with critical texts on the influence of Caravaggio in Mexican painting.
