500 $aThis is the Frankfurt edition of Galileo's Sidereus nuncius, printed several months after the first edition, issued by Tomasso Baglioni in Venice. This edition was printed by Zacharias Palthenius and is considered by many to be a piracy. The lunar illustrations are done in woodcut, rather than engravings. Palthenius also reproduced an error that Galileo had corrected in the Venice printing: the drop-title of "Cosmica Sydera," which Galileo had intended to use in order to honor Cosimo Medici II was corrected to the more preferable "Medicea Sydera" via cancel slips in many Venice copies.
