Regarded by many as the most influential figure in contemporary Welsh Politics, Gwynfor Evans recalls his lifelong struggle for Welsh self-government in this, the first book on his life to be Published in English. Gwynfor Evans transformed Plaid Cymru from a pressure group into a successful political party and became the first Welsh Nationalist Member of Parliament when he dramatically won the Carmarthen by-election in July 1966.

As the leader of his three strong Parliamentary Party, Gwynfor Evans played a key-role during Plaid Cymru's support of James Callaghan's minority Labour government in the late 1970s and is also credited as the first person to force a U-turn from Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government during the campaign to establish S4C - the Welsh Fourth Television Channel. He retired as Plaid Cymru President in 1981, after holding the post for 36 years and is now the party's Honourary President.

Gwynfor lives with his wife Rhiannon at their home in Pencarreg, Carmarthenshire. For the Sake of Wales is the definitive work about the most remarkable life of a most remarkable man.
