About the Author
Ashok Da. Ranade underwent rigorous training in Hindustani vocal music under Gajananrao Joshi, Laxmanrao Bidas, and B.R. Deodhar. He has held a number of important positions. He was the first Director of University Music Centre, Bombay (1968); Associated Director, Archives and Research Centre for Ethnomusicology of the American Institute of Indian Studies (1983); Assistant Director, National Centre for the Performing Arts, Bombay (1984-93); Visiting Prof., Queen's University, Belfast (1989); National Lecturer, UGC (1990-91); and Lecturer, Tagore Choir, M.S. University, Vadodara (1991-95). He was honoured with the degree of Sangeetacharya (Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal). He has many publications, albums and multi-media presentations to his credit. He conducts courses and workshop in voice-culture, music-theory, theatre speech and allied activities.
