"Across the pond" caught me off guard with it's historical context. The book is based off of the authors time in Vietnam and what he experienced during a critical time in our world. To put it simply, this is a story of a soldier. As a reader you put yourself in the shoes of a US Combat Marine in Vietnam and you get a full dose of the psychology, philosophy, and emotions that go with the part. Vietnam is controversial (and it should be) but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. for me reading this book gave me a lot of insights into what life was like in a war zone. I don't think of Vietnam in the same way after reading the story. Overall in my opinion this story was well worth the read.

I have always found the Vietnam war fascinating and when I heard about Across the Pond and Michael's story I just had to read it. This is a tale full of a young boy who faces lots of emotional trauma during the war only to be faced with being rejected and tossed to the side when he returns to his beloved homeland. This novel was extremely touching and heartfelt. I would recommend Across the Pond to anyone interested in war novels or the life of a soldier and hero that fought bravely for his country.

Absolutely loved this book! It is a fictional tale (based on the author's real life experiences in the war) but McCormick has written a very compelling and raw account of life during and after the Vietnam War. This was definitely intense and I couldn't put it down for a second. If you're looking for something that's both gripping and powerful, I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed!

I absolutely love to read books about other countries, as well as wars in general. Across the Pond by Michael McCormick was truly an amazing read. Even though this is technically a work of fiction, it is based on the experience that Mr. McCormick had while serving in the Vietnam War. For anyone who has ever experienced war first-hand, you know that he has done an amazing job recreating the emotions involved. It is a powerful story that pulls you in from the very beginning and I simply could not put it down. This is a must read for anyone interest in the Vietnam War.

This book transports you back in time 30+ years to the Vietnam War. The author tosses you right into the action on the first page. It's intense and you can't put it down.
This is the story of a young man that experienced many atrocities of war and came home alive. The country he came back to was very different from the one he left, as there was no welcome home. The emotions the book evokes are raw, as raw as it probably was for the author when he returned after his own tour.
I would recommend this book. It's realistically written, heart-wrenching and a compelling story.

I was blown away by the raw power of this book. Mr. McCormick adds a detailed, brutal, visceral account to the canon of Vietnam literature. This is a powerful look at the realities of the war, and how a soldier was treated after. Great book.

A really enlightening look into the Vietnam War and what was it like to be there. The awfulness of war is readily depicted here and it was really intriguing to find out what the entirety of the experience was like. A decisive issue of the generation, I learned so much from here. Highly recommended.

Horrors of Vietnam war are widely known but what this book does exceptionally is illuminates the reader to know the actual expendables of that war and what is it like to be in that situation. Reader gets the original thrill and from first page to last page this book doesn't let your eyes draw away from it. I will read this book again
Highly Recommended!!!!

This is a very quick but interesting read about the Vietnam War. Sean McBride (Mac) has to deal with the loss of his friends, the difficulties of warfare (killing strangers), as well as the realities of PTSD and being unemployable/unliked afterwards. This is a great read if you are a fan of The Red Badge of Courage and All Quiet on the Western Front.
