This was de Laurence's legal-by-loophole publication of Waite's Pictorial Key to the Tarot, which was originally published 6 years earlier (November 1910 but with an April 1911 pub date) in London. Apparently the work was not registered for copyright, or at least not in the United States. This is the first edition (1916) and only slight alterations were made to the artwork and copyright date for his "1918" edition. The images appear with yellow ink highlights and the physical copy is on high quality glossy paper.

First Sentence
"The pathology of the poet says that "the undevout astronomer is mad" ; the pathology of the very plain man says that "the genius is mad" ; and between these extremes, which stand for ten thousand analogous excesses, the sovereign reason takes the part of a moderator and does what it can."
