Book Details
First Sentence
"When Arnold Schoenberg, having fled Nazi Germany, came to Boston in 1933 to teach at the short-lived Malkin Conservatory of Music, a story made the rounds to the effect that Richard Burgin, concertmaster and assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, had had a conversation with the celebrated composer in which he proudly announced that some years earlier he had given the first Boston performance of Pier rot Lunaire."
