The story of Jed Hotchkiss, a New Yorker by birth who became topographer and mapmaker for Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. Hotchkiss, a self-taught engineer, served closely with Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Jubal Early and other Confederate generals. This biography, illustrated with some of Hotchkiss's beautiful maps, is based on Hotchkiss's letters and diaries.
