本书是"中国少数民族社会历史调查资料丛刊"之一. 由中国科学院民族研究所云南民族调查组,云南省历史研究所民族研究室作为内部资料刊印过.出版基本上保持原调查整理稿的本来面目,仅删去一些同科学研究无关的资料,订正一些明显的错误,对一些资料的行文作了必要的润色.对阿昌族社会历史情况进行了广泛的调查,积累了较为丰富的资料.这次修订时,补充了阿昌族人口,地方行政隶属于沿革变化的资料,对部分表格的数据进行核实并予以修订或加以说明.该书是了解,研究阿昌族与阿昌族地区社会,经济,宗教面貌的宝贵资料,为民族研究工作者和民族工作者所需.
