Fantastic. New York City - Central Park. Lilia Beddoes the divorced mother of daughter Jennifer, about 10 years old. Mother has very good job. Likes to party. Cannot find babysitter one weekend so brings Jennifer with her to an important/upscale party. Car breaks down on way home. (No cell phones yet!!!) In the middle of Central Park, in the wee hours of the morning, in the rain, Lilia leaves the broken car with sleeping Jennifer inside - and walks to find help. When she returns, Jennifer is missing. Story unfolds from here and there is a heartbreaking ending. Great descriptions of New York City and the world and work of the NYPD, and a gripping view of evil. Hard to put this book down.
