First Sentence

"Preface: This Rate Training Manual and Nonresident Career Course (RTM/NRCC) form a self-study package that will enable Boiler Technicians to acquire the theoretical knowledge and operational skills required to advance to Boiler Technician Third Class and Boiler Technician Second Class. Combined with the necessary practical experience and a review of other applicable training manuals, a knowledge of the information in this self-study package will help the student meet advancement requirements. Designed for individual study in support of on-the-job training, this RTM provides subject matter that relates to the occupational qualifications of the Boiler Technician rating. The NRCC provides the means of satisfying the requirements for completing the RTM. The set of assignments in the NRCC includes learning objectives and supporting items designed to lead the students through the RTM. This self-study package was prepared by the Naval Education and Training Program Development Center, Pensacola, Florida, for the Chief of Naval Education and Training. Technical assistance was provided by the Naval School, Boiler Technicians, Great Lakes; by the Naval Service Schools Command, Norfolk; by the Naval Development and Training Center, San Diego; and the Naval Sea Systems Command.
